Too Much TV

I'm not an idea person, but occasionally I surprise myself. This summer we have gotten into the habit of watching way too much TV. My kids are constantly asking if they can watch videos-we don't have cable. We are not talking hours and hours, but 1-2 videos/day. This is just more than I prefer them to watch. And we are trying to get back into a routine with homeschool, etc. SO...I did some thinking about how to lessen our TV and the times/day I get the, "can I watch?...question."
On Monday I gave the kids (the two older ones) four pennies (money). I said these are for your video tickets for this week. We looked at the calendar (days of week) and talked about how many days are in the week. I told them they could watch movies as long as it was at a convenient time. Mom has veto power of course. I suggested they work together to figure out how to stretch out their money (teamwork). So far, so good. I think it's gonna work wonders. It's going to take them a little while to figure out how far 8 pennies will go and just how long a week is, but that is ok!

Let me know if you have found anything else to help with this!

That's brilliant! I've been thinking the same thing, but I'm definitely trying your penny idea!
